Exhibition: Keith Kissee Memorial
October 6, 2023 8:00 am - February 11, 2024 5:00 pm
To collect is to remember.
People collect shells, coins, baseball cards, and often art. Each object can instill unique and deep emotional memories for the collector. For Keith Kissee collecting art was a fundamental passion that lasted over 30 years. In many ways this collection is a remembrance of Keith Kissee – his spirit, friendship, and generosity. He saw the beauty of the American landscape, the powerful connection to hard work and farm life, the majesty of cattle, and the affirming strength of the arts. His collection of art is largely from American artists from the Depression and the New Deal eras. This period of art reflects hard times and the perpetual reliance of individuals and communities.
This exhibition invites you to remember what is hard in life, and what gives strength and hope. Through Kissee’s collection, his eyes and passion, you can consider what is near and dear to your
own heart and what you collect, or remember.
