Bad Kitty Does Not Like Art Museums

Art museums are great! You can see many wonderful things, the curator exclaimed.
Bad Kitty does not agree. Her dislike of them remained.
Could a visit change her mind? Would that do?
Do you want to see another’s point of view?
Each has a story, and so do you.
For a moment Bad Kitty thought: Okay, Okay, but I still don’t see the hullabaloo.
Going inside, the AC was on. So far, this is pretty cool.
Her temperament took a break: The paintings are nice, but that is something I could make.
Inside you’re an artist! The docent explained:
Juxtapose yourself with the art you see. You can make it, but so can she.
Kitty thought it over, how could that be? Seeing something new, maybe that is the key?
Lots of pieces to view! Something old, something blue, and something with a kangaroo!
Much to see! So much to learn! What else could we discern? The art from…
Nick Bruel would be cool!
Open the doors to the LCVA to see his art.
Purrfect stories and lessons from the heart.
Questions arise and stories unfold,
Reading his books there is much to behold.
Super great pictures worth a Fabergé!
Thank you, Bad Kitty, for visiting today.
Understanding your dismay is okay! A good change is underway, maybe next time we’ll try the ballet?
Visual art can mend, pretend, blend, defend, and transcend.
Would you recommend to a friend?
Xylophone!
Yes! Oh, that’s wonderful news.
Zoom on over, and see some new views.
Bad Kitty Does Not Like Art Museums highlights works of art from author and illustrator Nick Bruel. For over twenty years, his stories have connected with children and adults alike. His whimsical narratives teach valuable life lessons through humor and the curious Bad Kitty.
Though she wasn’t always a bad cat, she just didn’t want to eat asparagus, horseradish, spinach, or zucchini. She wanted an assortment of anchovies, hippo hamburgers, rhino ravioli, or shark sushi. She may not have been as patient as she should have been, but that’s okay. She is learning – she is just a little kitty.
And Bad Kitty grows up, just like we do. She goes on vacation, takes a test, gets a bath, gets a phone, and even runs for president. These stories teach that when times get tough, we figure out ways to persevere and succeed, or how to handle disappointment.
Bad Kitty Does Not Like Art Museums is an invitation to find your own growth, revisit something you don’t like, and have some laughs. The LCVA, in conjunction with the Virginia Children’s Book Festival, asks that you don’t claw the curtains, overturn litter boxes, or ruin any rugs.
This exhibition is the eight iteration of the LCVA’s annual Arts and Letters exhibition series showcasing the best in the art of children’s literature, which is proudly presented in conjunction with the Virginia Children’s Book Festival.
