Harriet Fitzgerald and her long-time partner, Peggy Anderson, moved to Greenwich Street in the late 1970s. Both women painted scenes around their neighborhood. Peggy Anderson’s Looking to New Jersey in Winter, also in the Jack Blanton Collection, was painted at about the same time, and from the same window in their apartment, as this oil on canvas by Fitzgerald. Both artists have viewed the scene through the lens of abstraction. (Looking down into the main gallery, you can see Anderson’s painting.)
