This photograph is emblematic of Carlie Collier’s spiritual connection with Spain, where she has often visited and photographed. She once stated, “I feel drawn to the people, the music, the colors, and the insistent visual rhythms. . . . The Spanish are a very expressive people and their world is a visual feast of light, color, textures, and typography. Coming from the graphic design field, I take special delight in these images. . . . Spain energizes, cleanses me and makes me whole.”
Born in Boston, Collier chose Virginia for her art studies, receiving her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has taught at many Virginia art centers and colleges and has shown her work in Virginia museums, at The Light Factory in Charlotte, NC, and at the Los Angeles Photo Center.
