Longwood Life highlights works of art created as part of the Longwood Life program, a two-year non-degree post-secondary certificate day program for individuals with disabilities. Students enrolled gain skills for work and independent living, opportunities to socialize, and are exposed to new ideas in a classroom setting – all within a community of their peers.
Upon completion of the two-year program, participants earn a certificate and will have developed a portfolio that showcases their skills and strengths. This distinction demonstrates their commitment to their personal growth and professional ambitions. The visual arts play a vital role in the development of this.
The art on view speaks to an individual’s experiences and what is near and dear to their own heart. When viewed as a whole, the works promote self-expression, advocate for the importance of community, and attest to the qualities that link all people.
This exhibition is made possible in part by Helton House.
