José Romero is an animation design major at Longwood. His series, Magic Hat is currently on display in Point of Departure Exhibition.
He commented, “I've always loved the stories cartoons are capable of, and I set out to make one. Over the past year I've been working on an animated short film, with various ups and downs. During the summer I mostly storyboarded on paper, and mapped out how long each scene would be. Back on campus it was straight to animation, and composing backgrounds. Not to mention putting together the audio through some recording and other resources. There was also clean up, where I had to redraw and fix some animation that was a little too rough or wasn't working too well. Overall, it was an effort of trying to stick to a schedule, and some trial and error. I will always love cartoons, but this project has given me much more appreciation to the amount of work and dedication it goes into making one.”
Point of Departure is on display until May 17.
