Erin Stuck is an art major at Longwood. Her series, Goggie’s Girl is currently on display in Point of Departure Exhibition.
“Throughout my life I have always categorized myself as a creative human being. My imagination was something that was never lacking and I believe this is contributed to the fact that I am an only child. Being an only child was sometimes challenging, but it gave me a since of exploration that I have had for as long as I can remember. My love for exploration was a key factor in a research project in which this piece emerged. The theme for this piece is connection. The thread represents my connection with my family and my art, while the metals element connects me to my passion: jewelry making. Another key element of inspiration is my grandmother or as I call her ‘Goggie.’ She taught me how to sew and needlepoint when I was a child and she is a very important person in my life. This work is a 36-inch by 36-inch stretched canvas with a silver and bronze hairpin broach.”
Point of Departure is on display until May 17.
