Holli is a graphic design major at Longwood. Her work in Point of Departure helps military families deal with the difficulties associated with deployment.
"Growing up in a military family, my childhood was much different from the other kids around me. My family was always moving from place to place and my dad was always gone. Though I never once question my dad’s decision to join the military, I did wish I had outlet to help me better understand the that decision and his deployment. Deployment Diaries are made to help military children, specifically daughters. One diary is given to the father while the other is given to the daughter. Throughout the diary, there are pages to help the father and daughter interact with each other. Also, there are pages to help open the door of communication between father and daughter.
With these diaries I hope to give fellow military daughters an emotional outlet during deployment, as well as help communication between father and daughter. This will hopefully allow both sides to talk about how they feel about the time spent away from each other. My inspiration for this idea was my father. Through his hard work and dedication, I am able to be the person I am today."
Point of Departure is on display until May 11.
