Bianca is a graphic design major at Longwood. Her work in Point of Departure encourages high school students in the state of Virginia to consider a career in art therapy.
"The objective of my production is to persuade high school students interested in art therapy to pursue an education within this area of concentration, in the state of Virginia. Art therapy is a mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and increase self-esteem. Virginia holds some of the best institutions in the country, which offers psychology and counseling, and art therapy specific degrees. With much research, my production of an accordion fold booklet, brochure, posters, business cards and an interactive frame, allows others to observe the benefits and purpose of art therapy, and what an education in Virginia can offer those interested in the field. Each piece to my production holds a purpose in grabbing a young audiences’ attention with the use of activity drive, interactive elements geared towards research, opportunity, and social media."
Point of Departure is on display until May 11.
